Cyber Monday

Online Shopping

For all of you who could not brave the long lines and weather on Black Friday to nab the best holiday deals.  No worries, it's time to get clicking.  You can shop from the comfort of your home or office. Cyber Monday has become the biggest online shopping day of the year and once again online retailers have sweetened the pot by offering more deals online on this day.

How big of a day has this become?  $846 Million was the amount spent last year on Cyber Monday in 2008 and that number is expected to increase 15%  for this year.  Most of the bigger retailers are offering free shipping and special coupons for even more savings.

Still hesitant about shopping on line?   Here are a few tips to ensure your experience is a pleasurable one.
Make sure the site provides full contact information, so you know how to contact them.   Check out their privacy policy to see if they share your information with third parties.  It is also important to see how they process your payments and make sure it has a secure shopping cart.   Look for that actually on the site.  Also if it seems to good to be true.  It probably is.  And notice if the images look blurred or altered in the item you want to buy.   That is another way to spot fakes!    Happy Shopping!

Black Friday

Doorbusters

As I think of all my childhood memories celebrating with family and friends. It just occured to me how did the day after Thanksgiving become the biggest shopping day of the year "aka Black Friday"?  For those who don't know Black Friday is traditionally the day that retailers whose sales were in the red (i.e., posting a loss on the books) to being in the black (i.e., turning a profit) all year long, are now profitable. It is the unofficial start of the Christmas holiday shopping season.

Some of the larger retailers  have been reported to open as early as midnight on the start of Black Friday and remain open for 24 hours throughout the day until midnight the following Saturday. Upon opening, retailers offer doorbuster deals  and other shopping incentives to draw people to their stores.

I will be home relaxing that day, eating turkey leftovers!

Happy Thanksgiving

 The First Thanksgiving

The traditional "first Thanksgiving" is the celebration that occurred at the site of Plymouth Plantation, in 1621.  I am always grateful for this holiday!  Thanksgiving Day is a harvest festival. Traditionally, it is a time to give thanks for the harvest and express gratitude in general.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Country Music's Biggest Night

The 43rd Anual Country Music Awards will air tonight on abc.
Co hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley will honor the best of the best in country music.
It’s no coincidence that country is showing up all over the map. There are organizations, including the CMA, to market the music. In fact, country is the only genre with three awards shows of its own — CMT Video Awards, the Academy of Country Music Awards and the CMA Awards, billed as “country’s biggest night.”
